Agnes Grey was published in December 1847. Although it was sold exceptionally well, Agnes Grey was outshone by Emily Brontës Wuthering Heights. Literary historians have seen in Anne Brontës novels a realistic, rather than a romantic style. Her novels, like those of her sisters, have become part of the classics of the world and English literature.
